As Chairman of Governors, and Non executive Chairman of Management Board I led the management team in 1991 through the “buy out” of this charitable company based in Edinburgh. It employs over 100, many of whom are internationally recognised scientists in occupational and environmental health and hygiene, working in research, testing, consultancy, and training. At the time of the “buy out” in 1991 the organisation was losing £¾m p.a. It was returned to profitability in year one and is now self-sustainable with a strong balance sheet and a turnover of £6.5m. The focus is currently on focusing the business on the future with the employment of a new CEO and a new five year plan, as well as complying with new Charity Legislation etc.
